System Engineer

Clear Measure is a custom software engineering firm whose mission is to bring a competitive advantage to growing companies.  We work with executives to manage their entire software engineering life cycle from technical strategy to 24-hour support. Many executives are concerned that their technology may not be keeping up with their competition, frustrated with their ability to scale systems & processes, or experiencing lost profitability due to inefficiencies in their software. We partner with mid-market companies to learn about their business objectives and are intimately involved in every stage of the engagement.

We are growing rapidly and are looking for an experienced and consistent DevOps Engineer to work hand in hand with our project teams to ensure best practices are being utilized through the entire project lifecycle. This is a client facing position and it is critical the candidate be equal parts personal and technical.  The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, self-motivated, an independent worker, polished, and have superior communication skills.  A positive attitude and feeling that “no task is too small” is imperative for this role. You must be able to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, fluid work environment.  Duties will include but are not limited to: Working with clients to setup and manage cloud infrastructures. Plan and manage complex environments on behalf of clients in Cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Rackspace, etc.) Work through a ticketing portal to manage client requests and escalate to a tiered support team as necessary. Work closely with project teams to help plan requirements for new features and ensure best practices are being used.  A positive attitude, calm demeanor and professional charisma are a must as well.

  • Hands-on management of a cloud-based software solution hosted by third parties and running on both Linux and Microsoft platforms
  • Continuously maintain and/or improve the security of client environments and customer data
  • Support development teams with deployments as needed
  • Employ innovative thought and automation to improve workflow, efficiency, productivity and technology deployment
  • Monitor all production environments as a part of a 24x7x365 on call rotation to ensure availability and performance meets our SLAs
  • Respond to monitoring alerts as received
  • Maintain regular communications and be closely integrated with Project Teams and customers
  • Create and maintain documentation of client environments in a wiki format
  • Improve the speed and efficiency service delivery to ensure client success and satisfaction
  • Ability to take a project or task from inception to completion understanding when to escalate
  • Act as backup to Network Engineer as necessary
  • Stay familiar with relevant current and future technologies and trends
  • Attends all company and/or departmental meetings
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned

  • You are a passionate, voracious continuous learner.  You naturally have kept up with the latest trends, technologies and tools in the industry
  • Understanding and experience managing environments of both Windows and Linux servers
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft SQL Server Administration
  • Knowledge of networks, firewalls, and VPN configurations
  • Experience working out of a ticketing queue to manage client work and communication
  • Experience with Change management and hosting compliance standards (HIPAA, PCI, PCI DSS, ISO 27001)
  • Experience with VMWare, Openstack, or other virtualization technology
  • Experience with cloud computing environments, such as Amazon Web Services, Azure, or Rackspace Cloud
  • Knowledge of scripting languages, including Powershell and bash. Ruby and python are a plus.

  • Previous experience in a professional services organization where time is billed in increments
